  • You can go but they prefer if you attend meetings for co-dependents, like Al-Anon. It will help you with the challenge you both have ahead of you. How will Al-Anon help me? Many who come to Al-Anon/Alateen are in despair, feeling hopeless, unable to believe that things can ever change. We want our lives to be different, but nothing we have done has brought about change. We all come to Al-Anon because we want and need help. In Al-Anon and Alateen, members share their own experience, strength, and hope with each other. You will meet others who share your feelings and frustrations, if not your exact situation. We come together to learn a better way of life, to find happiness whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not. http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/newcomer.html
  • There are two types of meetings. Open and closed. Open meetings mean that anyone can attend, closed are for addicts (alcohol) only. Your friend may want to also look into NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meeting. NA considers alcohol a drug just like heroine, coke, etc. Also, there is a group called Alanon that you may want to look into. It is for people with friends and family of addicts (alcohol or narcs). Call the place that is hosting it or call the 800 number (don't know it off the top of my head), and they can tell you if it was open or closed.
