Wow, I remember those! And your question really brought back memories for me as a youngster. I remember the last time was probably when I was around 9 or 10. I recall the thin, red, yellow, and blue cellophane that the balsa wood pieces were wrapped in, and the "elementary" diagram and instructions on the back of the package. The wood was so light and flimsy, and fitting the pieces together was easy. I'd take my plane into the yard and toss it from the wooden porch of my house, and my cute little mongrel dog would go chasing after it and bite it to bits. I didn't have much toys as a kid, so your question really brought back endearing memories. Slinkies were also one of my favs, as well as silly putty in the plastic "egg" containers. I liked pressing silly putty on comic book pages and getting a colored imprint on the putty, then stretching it to distortion. (I now have an impulse to go out and buy one of those balsa wood glider planes from a thrift store, except now they cost a buck at the dollar store! Sigh.....what happened to the good ol' days?) +++++

Talk about nostalgia. As a kid, I lived for those things, but I guess I was probably in awe of anything that could jump further than I did :o) Needless to say, when my godson was little, I wanted to get him out having fun. He'd fly out for a few weeks every summer, and we'd fly kites and do the Earthquake Trail hikes and the Jelly Belly factory: Just busy stuff that he'll hopefully remember when he's older. One year I found those "little cheap ... glider" planes at a place called Harbor Freight Tools. Harbor Freight wound up being a cheap tow haven, sort of like a Dollar Store on steroids, but only cheap tools and even cheaper toys that most children wouldn't touch, without having a dad, uncle or godfather that remembers being a poor kid, or grew-up before in-home video came systems. My godson LOVED the planes. I wondered what the hype was about ;o). We were back in the car, going to the local Target for cellar tape within 10 minutes, but we got a decent summer afternoon out of that two buck toy. But still, I wonder what I saw in them, as a kid.
