They want to drop out of our mad mad mad world... the prospect of working hard and getting a mortgage that enslaves them to the central banking system while getting taxed to death does not excite them. They want a different kind of world.

I can answer this. I checked on moving to portland. I called EVERY homeless shelter there ..there is like 50 of them.. they were all FULL. I asked a lady how could that be possible. (I had applied for low income housing and was waiting for my name to come up on the list).. She told me that most of the shelters were full of Hurricane Katrina victims. she said they had emptied for a while but then when the govt stopped paying rent for them and giving them checks, they all moved back into the shelter.. I told her that that made no sense because katrina victims got first choice of all Section 8 vouchers and she told me that a lot of people turned the vouchers down because they would rather live in a shelter.. HONEST TO GOD.. THAT IS WHAT SHE TOLD ME.. plus Portland is a beautiful city and everyone wants to live there. They have a TON of low income housing but with everyone flocking there from Hurricane katrina and then they flocked there from the Hurricane in Mexico, the housing filled really fast and their is nothing left except to live on the street.

Many are "Street Families" and sleep anywhere they can. They live by theft and begging. Plus, many think "Oh the world owes me a living and I'm so special, gold will fill my pockets soon" Such an attitude of entitlement is not uncommon among those who really have no clue. Many just hang around DT portland and bum money. Lord knows how many times I have gone there and seen a couple dozen and get harassed for not giving. I just smile and say "I got it by working, try it" They get a bit miffed and of course, like children call me names. I laugh even harder and walk away..

Portland and Seattle both have unusually mild climates for places so far north. That makes them magnets for those whose practices subject them to greater risk of homelessness. Apparently the city has a lot of programs and shelters for them, which increases the demand for such services. Such demand will grow to strain the capacity no matter what. http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/story.php?story_id=124728849233200700 Also, Oregon is a state run by liberals and their anti-business bent. Such liberal-run places tend to be job-scarce and soon enough broke. http://www.examiner.com/x-17412-Macon-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m11d12-Study-Ten-most-bankrupt-states-are-run-by-liberals
