An EEG is a test used to detect abnormalities in the electrical activity of the brain. Electrodes are placed on the scalp to read this electrical activity, and the data is presented as a series of graphs of brainwaves (alpha, beta, delta, theta, etc.). The procedure you're talking about, that of injecting a dye into the brain and then studying the vascular system, is called an angiogram. An X-ray-blocking dye is injected into the brain, and then an X-ray is taken that allows doctors to see the cerebral blood vessels.
