  • Ah, no. First of all, air is already mostly nitrogen. So, I assume that what you are suggesting is taking all of the oxygen out of the air. This would be disastrous for us. Without free oxygen in the air and water, all non-photosynthetic life would die because we need oxygen to live. Combustion would not be faster, because fires need oxygen to burn. So, no, removing oxygen from the atmosphere is NOT a good idea.
  • I think you got that backwards. You may be thinking that if air were 100% oxygen, those things might happen. But in fact, in large quantities, oxygen is a highly corrosive poison. It's what causes rust as well as fire. Your lungs would be chemically 'burned'. You'd die within minutes. But yes, combustion would indeed be explosive.
