Because space is a vacuum which means that there isn't an atmosphere of gasses (like on earth) for it to SHINE on. The earth gets bright because there is STUFF around that gets illuminated and the molecules in the air absorb some of the light and essentially glow blue. In space, it is mostly emptiness so there isn't anything to shine on.

Space is a truly astonomically big place, my friend. It is sort of like a bonfire in a forest, for while you can and will be burned by it up close, there is enough space to hide from it and freeze.
