  • Priority my friend priority
  • that depends, do people pay to see teachers teach?!
  • I have no idea, I think it is disgusting, that people put sports above their children's education. Teachers deserve a lot more than a raise, they deserve the respect, for the help they give us, raising our children.
  • Unfortunately, sports brings in lots and lots of money, from the actual event sales, but primarily from the gambling aspect of it. If the "odds makers" were to give odds on the "teacher of the year" and such, so that gamblers would bet on them, you can rest assured that teachers would be paid more.
  • Once again, people confuse "free market economics" with morality. There's an easy fix for this: quit watching. Don't go to games. Don't watch the games. Don't by the products that advertisers advertise on the games. Of course, that takes commitment, sacrifice, and paying attention, which are three things that Americans haven't been able to stomach since 1946. . . .
  • I DO think that teachers should be paid more, especially in the smaller schools, since there is much more to be done. Why are they paid less? Well, it just is the fact that Sports brings in more money, thus giving them more money to pay the players. ~+~
  • The same reason movie stars get paid more than school teachers. Have you stopped going to the movies? We live in a free economy and are therefore free to spend our disposable income any way that we like. If your community wants to pay its teachers more, then vote for representatives that will raise your taxes and pay them more. If enough good teachers quit your school district because of the low pay, market forces will take over and your community will pay more to keep the good employees. (Just like a private business would do). Many teachers stay in the profession despite the low pay. They knew the pay was crappy when they were in college. It's a calling for them. It's what they love to do (Cops and Firemen are like this as well...they are usually underpaid compared to the rest of society. But they can't imagine doing another job) When movie stars and athletes make all of this money, it is a sign of a robust economy with lots of disposable income. This is a good thing.
  • I am a teacher so of course I will agree with you on teachers getting more. However, I couldn't live without football.
  • its about advertising and generating lots of business and making tons of money. operating a football stadium isnt cheap. the teachers want more money...trade tenure for more money. lets get the deadwood out of the teacher ranks.
  • Of course they should, but where will the money come from? Higher taxes? We all now how fond people are of those.
  • Teachers should be forced to accept a 50% cut in pay! Watch how many stay on even after implementing such a measure! Why should taxpayers have to pay massive salaries to those that fail to do even the most fundamental aspects of their so called profession?
