  • Shoot rabbits, stop them reaching plague proportions so we can keep our food crops and don't starve to death. And plenty of people were killing each other before guns were invented. Just because I feel too wussy to use a sword doesn't mean everyone else does. And you'd be surprised at how easy it is to make home - made explosives. And should we ban aeroplanes post 9/11? ... Errr, it's too late. Pandora's box has been opened, the cat is out of the bag, the horse has already bolted and the gun has already been invented. And how nice would everyone be if we all had our own little weapon that could blow up the whole world? (if we lasted that long!!!)
  • um hunting it keeps the animal populations regulated and they taste really good
  • Self protection and acquiring food are two good reasons. I find many things more destructive and frightening than a gun.
  • The helpless and the innocent can protect themselves with a gun....combat would be rather one sided if they didn't all have guns.....take away the gun and that wretched soul may suffer longer whilst committing suicide.....olympic medals have been won with a gun in the hand of man; hunting has prevented starvation or mauling by wild animals..... There are many ways to commit violence against our fellow man - guns don't kill people - people kill people!
  • Plenty...how about defending your home and family?
  • Well, I use mine for many purposes - going out in the middle of nowhere and shooting targets, plinking a few cans, it is all good fun. Heading down the 1000 Yard range, I'll slip into an almost mediative state, and it helps me think about my problems, and come up with solutions. Also, being able to put a round accurately downrange at those sort of distances is a hard skill to acquire and keep. It gives you discipline and focus. Lastly - Trick-shooting. Nothing's more fun than grabbing some targets, and seeing how far you can push yourself with fancy shooting. Throwing four clay targets in the air at once, by hand, and then hitting them all with my shotgun - good fun, and a cool little trick.
  • One thing I have noticed is that no matter how negative something is, there is always an opposite positive that can also be measured. In that regard, a gun is no different than any other object. It is neutral until put into the wrong hands.
  • When a weapon is discovered to destroy a life, what good we can expect from such weapon ?
  • Guns are also used to stop very bad people and keep them from hurting anyone else.
  • Isn't fast suicide a good thing? I mean, it's better than setting yourself on fire and running amok isn't it?
  • Chief Wiggums uses the handle of his gun to crack walnuts. And if the nut is too hard to crack than he can shoot it.
  • The fact that you're able to write this comment in the safety of your own home came at the hands of a gun by our ancestors during the American Revolution. Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution...those trivial things were defended by guns and lives. If you're not an American than it's just a history lesson for ya.
  • How about women I've always found girls with guns slightly erotic
  • In the hands of a man, I can't say, but in my hand, a gun has kept a few bad men over the years from harming me.
  • A gun can deter a crime. The very presence of a gun can calm a situation. If a criminal knows that a potential victim is armed with a gun, that criminal will not attack.
  • If you want to think that way then you should ask the same question about morphine, knife, dynamite, uranium, etc. You can use any humen's inventions in a wrong way that causes harm.
  • Cain slew Able with the jawbone of an ass. What good has ever come from an ass having jaws?
  • Hey Moto ... I see you're at it again ... ruffling the feathers of the temperamental trigger happy ones amongst us? ... Ha! you crack me up you crazy Aussie ... better watch your back :) Although I do see your point. (My Aussie huomor ... no offense intended) __________________________________________________ The Gun Allows thugs to roam the streets killing themselves and the innocent ... Allows thieves more confidence when breaking into our homes and killing the innocent families within ... Allows the innocent to kill the thief ... Allows the innocent to kill the innocent by mistaken identity ... Allows the wife to kill her husband ... Allows the husband to kill his wife ... Allows the parents to kill their children ... Allows the children to kill their parents ... Alllows the school kid to massacre 30 or so of his or hers schools students ... Allows the criminal to kill the cop ... Allows the cop to kill the wrong criminal ... Allows the hunter to kill the animal for fun ... Allows a stranger in uniform from one country ... to kill a complete stranger from another ... war ... Allows our loved ones to make their suicide attemps final ... Allows some to withdraw money from the bank without a need to queue ... >>>>> and so on All these applications by negative gun use above ... require the innocent to react by the same outcome of gun ... Death by protection. Yes my riend ... I see your point ... No positive will ever come from a bullet fired from a gun ... Eitherway it only brings a faster death ... and death is always a negative ... Fortunately for you Moto ... you live in a country where guns are illegal ... and the death rate by shooting is minimal ... How nice it must be to sleep without a magnum under you pillow and knowing your children at school are safe from each other. :) Would this fool have got so far without the gun?
  • Good point. People can not be trusted with guns because they're all thieving homicidal maniacs. So everyone should give their guns to me for safe keeping. I'll put them away so no one can touch them. Anyone who disagrees is obviously mentally unstable and is planning to use their guns for evil purposes and so they should definitely give all their guns (and bullets) to me before they do any damage. They'll thank me later when they realize how right I am. Get to it, kiddies! And they should give me all their pillows too, because I once met a mentally unstable person who killed people by smothering them with pillows...
  • I would agree that a gun is a dangerous thing. The good that has come from a gun is the freedom that we enjoy in this country today. It seems to me if we take the guns out of the hands of our society we would have communistic state where the government rules over us. Woops I think we are close to that anyway.
  • Nothing good has really ever come with guns in the hands of mankind. If someone is hurt or dies there always is a loss of life.
  • Quite a number of rapes and home invasion robberies have been either prevented or stopped due to the use of guns in proper hands. A gun is a tool. Tools can be used for any number of purposes.
  • i believe its not the weapon that is the thing that is lethal , its the person behind it that needs to be taken away!minds of the people using them needs to be sorted out. the only good reason for guns, for humanity sake is the fact guns are useful for killing animals which we eat and survive from.
  • Before guns it was knives and swords, there were clubs and spears. Everything has been misused. It's not the object, it's the person behind it.
  • i will say this.....i have been held at gun point by a friend who was on the edge. this person was not happy with his current life and wanted to hurt someone and for them to take the blame( which was me) i sat in a room with my dog and 2 children, he came in the room with the gun pointed at me..instatly my dog new there was somthing wrong and attacked him, me and the children managed to escape un-harmed. sadder yet, is the fact this so called friend had showed me this gun days before as he seemed proud to have it in his pocket, but new it was wrong to let everyone else to see it and kept it hidden.as i was so shocked and scared from then on,i tried to avoid this friend and he did not like this, so i stayed close , hoping not to upset him!i could not escape till he turned on me.police got involved and did not arrive for hours while we hid.
  • If you mean since the gun has been created, perhaps very little. There will always be and always have been people willing to kill people with whatever instrument is available. If the gun could be erased from existence, I am all for it. However, now that the Pandora's box has been opened, it will never truly go away, no matter what laws and/or mandates there are. Unscrupulous people will get them, so law-abiders better have them for protection. Interesting question. +
  • Those who are pro guns will tell you that a gun never killed anyone..that people kill. You will be told they are necessary to provide food on the table for some people. You will be told they are necessary to protect your family from evildoers who have guns. Anyone can justify anything at any time with or without reason. I personally believe the world would have been far better off if murder were left at a mano a mano level..use of your hands to kill..that way you are not removed from the result of your actions..you are up close and personal. Use of guns is cowardly. It's the choice of mass murderers, isn't it? Crazy people who want to kill maximum numbers of people with minimum effort. How many wars would there have been without guns/bombs? Now, mind you, I was never raised in a home with guns..if I had been and it were part of my history, I'd probably give an entirely different response! :)
  • A gun killed my supper I ate last night, damn that was good deer steak, and a gun killed my snack, jerky
