  • Industrialization. By solving so many of the world's problems, humanity has also created brand new problems. For every invention and stroke of modernization - no matter how useful - the progress of society strains the resources of the Earth. Environmental issues are just one facet of such a scenario. What happens when the world over-indulges technology is another. We build things to make life easier, better. What often happens, though, is that we create elaborate systems to solve problems which inevitably yield to different problems. On a different note, I think that people who try to solve the problems of others tend to also open the door for new troubles to arise. Any problem, physically or emotionally, can be overtreated. The results are equal, if not more damaging, to the original issue. Sometimes, with progress, such a scenario is inevitable. Sometimes it means that we should only solve the problems we know that we can tackle in a balanced, smart way.

  • By today's standards my parent's generation were always emotionally, and sometimes physically abusive. My generation decided we'd be our kid's friend. Society as a whole is not better for it. What 13 year old needs a 37 year old friend?

  • Well, the first thing that comes to mind for me is a movie quote: "I've spent so much time thinking about all the answers to the problem, that I forget what the problem *actually* was. - Tangibly speaking, most solutions act as crisis management. You fix the problem in the moment, and do so somewhat successfully and effectively. However, that isolated solution has no effect on the long-term, thus perpetuating the original problem.

  • Rabbits, bull frogs, cane toads in places where they didn't evolve ! Snakes on Guam. but they just hitched a ride there, they were not brought in to solve a problem.
