I believe so. People seem to think every purchase they make is a sort of vote.

I don't think so. There are 300 million people living in America from every country in the World. It is a diverse nation with not just one point of view. It is too simplistic to say it is like a corporation. BTW, in what way is this related to Joe DiMaggio?

In the original version of "Rollerball" (1975), John Houseman explains that -- quoting from memory -- "There is no United States. There is no Russia. There are only corporations." We may not be there yet, but when you consider the increasing influence that huge corporations have on national policy, it's hard not to conclude that we're headed that way.
