Two things: Mace is the fibrous covering of a nutmeg seed. It's like a netting and tastes milder than nutmeg. The other kind of mace is a kind of tear gas that has certain volatile compounds/chemicals to spray at people. It's not the same as pepper spray which has capsicum in it. Mace is much worse and in some states, illegal.

It's stripped off while still soft, and dried in the sun, changing colour to orange (in Grenada, it is kept in the dark for some months to rudece the color even more.) When hard, mace is sold off as pieces (blades of mace) or powdered. It has many uses some of its medicinal uses are to reduce flatulence, is a stimulant and a tonic, aids digestion,helps circulation, and,in Asia, is used to relieve nasea.

It is a medieval weapon class that includes clubs, flails and even sticks. Maces were used by knights in the Dark Ages for combat. They are slow and are hard to block with, but their attacks are powerful and caused massive damage.
