  • Not really. It emulates PS2 games, but the emulation software is so crappy the sound is off, of random texture and graphic glitches occur. You're better off playing a PS2 with PS2 games.
  • The PS3 is MOSTLY compatible, though there are some games that don't work, or work with glitches. IGN has an interesting article on backwards compatibility here - http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/745/745439p1.html
  • i think the PS3 Would Play PS2 Games But You Would Probably Have To Look Into It more Because Im Not 100% Positive.
  • so the 40G PS3 i bought my bf will play his PS2 games??
  • Ps3 play most ps2 games . I can not play Hitman blood money and i think there will be more ps2 games NOT playable. Oh by the way "dickhead" made a previous comment. Well "dickhead" I had a xbox 360 . One small minute little scratch on a game.....good luck......PS3 is more advanced. Ask yourself this . How bigger a game can you get on a BLUE RAY disc???ps3 to a DVD disc (Xbox360 DVD) ! About 9 times "dickhead". You see life isn't about what you have now, but what you will have over time. Oh by the way my xbox was send back to microsoft it lasted 8 months.
  • It depends on the PS3 you buy, some come with the software to play the PS2 games, while the cheaper ones don't come equipped, its all a matter of whether you really want to pay the extra money just to play the games you could play on your PS2.
  • hi there i just bought ps3 80gb and i tryed the game right away it's the metal gear solid 3 and didn't play i got the msg unsuported format and then when i klicked play it says this ps3 doesn't play ps2 games can i fix this. or is just this game
  • The original 60Gb PS3, (and the 20Gb cheaper model) had Backwards Compatibility built-in by including in the hardware the actual chips from the PS2. Over 99% of PS2 games worked wth it. Then came the newer models and the 80Gb model had backwards compatibility emulated by software. Approximately 90% of PS2 games worked on it. The 40Gb model was introduced next and all BC had been removed from it to allow Sony to sell it cheaper. There was no huge outcry from the consumers and so Sony went and got rid of BC entirely. The Medal Gear Solid Bundle (80Gb PS3 with MGS4 and Dual Shock 3 Controller) was the last generation of PS3 with any BC. Both current models have fewer ports and lack all backwards compatibility. Hope this helps.
  • i got 3 ps2 more games and non of them is playing on my ps3 what should i do is there anywhere now to buy but brend new to play ps2 games on ps3 or is there anything i can do to make it work
  • just buy a 360. Cheaper, graphics are just as good, if not better, and EVERY console has the ability to emulate original Xbox games and more are being added all the time. not to mention that the 360 has almost all the games the PS3 has on it.
  • Do I have to buy new memory cards for my ps3 to play ps2? The ones I have wont fit in my 6o bc...they are too fat?!
  • The older models do, the new ones don't. There. I solved all the world's problems.
