What's the best way for a writer to approach a book publisher? (through an agent, with a query letter, TOC and sample chapter, a hand shake at a conference or workshop, something else?)

Through an agent, I've heard. A lot of publishers won't even read your letter if you don't have one.

dont let anything come between you and your dream try with all your soul and above all be yourself and remember if this one dosent work out theres plenty more out there. not every one is going to like it so dont base your judgement off of one persons opnian.

You should look into 'self-publishing' ....I'm not sure of the details, but I've heard lots about it lately...might try googling the term 'self-publishing' and see what you get.....there are at least a few self-published authors out there who did it and ended up with best sellers......hey, it could happen to you!!!
