    The slick answer would be 'cello music'.

    The cello is the 'tenor' voice of a string section, and the bass voice of a string quartet.

    There are many great cello concertos, including those by Dvorak and Elgar. Another famous cello piece is 'the Swan', from Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals. There are many famous cello sonatas, and solo cello music, from Bach to the present day.

    From the above you can see that the cello is mainly used in classical music, but not exclusively.
