  • Primarily because Microsoft recommends against it. They created Exchange, they must advise against this for good reasons. These reasons might include not putting all your eggs in one basket. If your domain controller dies, so does your Exchange server, whereas if you had Exchange on a separate server it might be able to function to a limited degree.
