While Romania (Add Hungary and Russia to the list.) are extremely old fashioned and superstitious people, their ''vampire'' lore and superstitious beliefs predate the Dracula syndrome, and actually, they totally despise what has been done with one of their most respected historical heroes throughout entertainment, and how this hero, Vlad the Impaler, expanded the modern vampire throughout European and American ''folklore''. He was turned into a monster, and they don't like it. Even Bram Stoker had admitted to improvising on Romanian words he really didn't know anything about to fuel his story, and to this day HIS creations are considered as legitimate cultural and accounting of Romanian mythology by historians and fans alike. it's only just been now discovered that ''Nosferatu'' isn't even a word at all, but rather a modified version of the word nosferat which was taken from the Greek nosphorous(Sp?) meaning plague bearer, as opposed to defining the modern vamp, as depicted by Bram Stoker. Example. This does not please them, if there are vampires, you won't find the generic modern vampire in Romania. People think that if you go over there the libraries are full of vampire books, and surveys show that the Romanians themselves are extremely disoriented and unfamiliar with popular vampire mythology which is said to originate from their own country, and what they do know, they resent. They have their own vibrant and somewhat creepy mythologies, which have stayed alive and lucid for perhaps longer than other countries due to many parts of Romania being rural, and while a lot of it deals with witches and the undead, not much of of it has to do with the vampires you think you'll find there. :p It makes sense when you think about it, because a less developed country with near archaic social stature is most likely to stick to their cultural roots than to expand upon them, say like America or Japan.

You can't know for sure, because vampires never admit that they are vampires.
