Maybe because even though they may not be happy here, there's no other place on the Internet (or worse, even in real life) where they can find happiness and/or satisfaction. So instead of leaving, they stay, because they know that most people on Answerbag are nice people :)

I don't believe they are unhappy so much with AB but rather some of the members. It is hard to walk away from some of the friends we all make here. Leaving AB for many means to walk away from those friends. Sure there is email and other sites but it is the magic of this site that brought you together. A consent battle with your emotions of dealing with those who hatefully stalk you and with good friends that try to help you. leaves you wanting to put the blame somewhere.
