What do you think of my plan to alter points for moderating: 2 points for wrong category (easy), 5 points for duplicate = work, 3 points for spam / offensive & nonsense = pretty easy to flag?

I think your PLAN is flawed, prepare to be assimilated. Resistance is futile. However, if the staff decides to use your plan... We will not assimilate...

I think it's a good plan. I don't complain when I get points for moderation, but you're correct in saying that the wrong category questions are fairly easy. The only real work is in trying to sometimes find the category that they belong in.

I think it's a great idea, but I disagree with the order of difficulty. I put a lot more effort into "wrong category" than I do for "duplicate." With wrong category I spend time finding just the right category, but when I flag a duplicate that handy-dandy list pops right up for me, all the work is done.

I think those who moderate should do it out of the goodness of their hearts, in an effort to make AB a smoother, more enjoyable site. You offer points, you bring out the frantic pointgobberupper in some people, who will seek any excuse to "moderate" good questions out of existence. Moderating is not creative..it judges the creativity of others. Why not make it an altruistic alternative? :)
