  • Ok there's good news and bad news. The good news is that the staccato notes you refer to as the "bouncy" ones are probably being produced, incorrectly in the throat. Staccato is produced from the gentle kick diaphragm, not the throat. The bad news is that at 19 there's no way in heck of knowing what you will actually turn out to be. The truth is the female larynx doesn't fully mature until the mid-thirties. 19 is fairly young in terms of the operatic voice and though you may have a coloratura sound now, in just a few years you could be a mezzo-soprano or a light lyric soprano or just about anything. The best thing you can do is get with a good teacher and work on solidifying your technique. As a professional opera singer and teacher I can tell you one of the obstacles I see a lot with my students is that they want to force their voices to sing the rep they like, and really its the other way around. You have to sing what your voice wants to sing, what it is capable of. Hope this helps and good luck to you!
