In the movie Cloverfield, what exactly happens to the victims after they are 'infected' by being bitten by one of the spider things?

They never actually say or show you. But if you watch the scene where there in that military hospital place and they take the girl behind that screen it looks like she just blows up. Or maybe it's like alien and babies burst out of her. Anyway, you can see blood spray on the screen.

It's either babies hatching. Or it's something like a the bite of a komodo dragon. Where the creature waits for you to succumb to your venom/infection wounds before feasting on you.

Well in Marlena's case (the one infected), when she was taken into the tent it almost looked like one of the little minion creatures came out of her belly. (the scene where she explodes as well)
