I have had headaches daily for two years and realize it is because of the essure! I am hypersensitive to what kind of earrings I wear, they cannot contain nickel. I just come to find out that the essure coils contain nickel! No wonder I have been having bad headaches ever since I had them put in, I am having a massive allergy reaction. I am calling my doctor to remove them tomorrow. Those of you who are suffering with strange symptoms that you did not have prior to the procedure, should do the same. Essure is just not safe!
I attempted to have the Essure procedure done In May 2010. I ended up with a perforated Uterus as well and had to spend the night in the hospital to be monitored and the next morning during my tubal ligation they removed fluid from my abdomen that was from the Essure procedure. Even If I wouldnt have had the tubal done I would have still had to have the fluid drained from my abdomen from this. The Essure procedure was the worst pain I had EVER been through.. I have had two csections and the Tubal ligation and the Essure was STILL the most painful!
i just got home today from having the essure procedure. i was told in about 2 hours, i'd be going home. well, didnt happen that way. two of the essure devices were attempted and both defective. my uterus got a puncture and i started leaking fluids throughout my body! i woke up in recovery to find that a catheter had been placed in my side to rid fliuds, as well as i was given a medication to help remove excess fluids. i ended up with a cathter in my bladder because of the meds, and ended up with cracked ribs because of the pressure used to rid fluids. i was given a breathing treatment and stayed on oxygen for a day and a half. i had slight pneumonia from this. it was awful! i went it for what was suppose to be a routine procedure, because i have children and didnt want to be down long, and ended up hospitalized. this was very scary. i could have lost my life. choose your doctor and procedure with lots of care. my doctor had great reps and many of these procedures under his belt. still, accidents and hidden dangers are lurking.
i had mine put in on feb 29 2008 and have headace every sence and they r get worst and i have no dr that will help me. my peord is 10x worst then it was before. and now my son is 2 AND I CANT EVEN ENJOY HIM BECAUSE OF THE HEADACE ARE SO BAD MOST DAYS!!!!
had it done 5 months ago. had the worst recovery pain ever, even tho they had maxed me out on drugs, continued pain and bleeding for 2 weeks, now 6 months later i have the worst sharp "ovulation" pains that are lasting days at a time, mostly on my left side. going in for ultrsound next week, wish i would have just had a tubal.
I had a great experience and had this done on September 1st, 2009. In and out of the Dr.s office with in 30 minutes flat. They suggested I take the advil the day before but I forgot to and they gave me a double dose of the super motrin before the procedure. It was slightly uncomfortable when the tubes were placed but over with in 15 minutes from start to finish.
I suggest you go to a female Dr. She was awesome. I've had no problems at all. There have two times when I've had abdominal pain on my right side during PMS. Pain where it was sharp and I had to lay down. It passes quickly and it has only happened during the last 2 days of PMS right before my period starts.
I get the test on December 1st to see if my tubes are plugged and I can't wait to stop the BC pills. I will circle back in a few weeks once I get the results.
I attempted to have the procedure done on Oct 19. With only a cervical block and no other sedation or pain medication of any kind, after about 35 minutes the doctors gave up trying to place the inserts saying the inserts were defective. I think this has to be the most severe pain I have ever experienced in my entire life, and I had two natural child births. Now, I don't even have the inserts, and I have cramping and bleeding that won't stop. Since my failed procedure, I have read tons of horror stories about women with the inserts who have pain, cramping, and spotting that doesn't stop for years after. I am thankful the procedure was a failure, and I can only hope my body recovers soon.
I just had the procedure done last week. I was told by my doctor that I wouldn't need any pain medication (though I could take Advil before hand if I wanted) but that he would give two Valium to relax me. The pain was more than the "minor discomfort" I was lead to believe it would be. I breathed through it and when it was over I thought it wasn't so bad until the doctor helped me up from the table, told me to go ahead and get dress and then left with the nurse.
As I was getting dressed I had intense cramping (reminded me of labor), nausea and then became dizzy. Luckily I was able to get my clothes on before passed out. My doctor found me on the floor (I have no idea how long I was out). I have rug burn on my face, knot on my forehead and a chipped tooth.
The procedure it's self wasn't so bad but I would recommend have a good doctor that you have good faith in unlike myself. I felt that my doctor just assumed I'd be like every other person he treated and didn't prep for the possibility for a negative result (such as a patient passing out while alone).
Since the procedure I've had lower back pain and cramping that runs all the way down to my legs. I'm hoping that after my next cycle that things will get better.
Yesterday, I had my done. I had to take 1 ibuprofen at bed time, 1 ondansetron and 1 pill open cervix. Then 2 hrs before essure an oxycodone and then another 1 ibuprofen.
Let me just say a lot of meds. The ibuprofen made me dizzy and I was laugh like a nut for no reason. The all the meds set in at once oxycodone made me feel yucky, more spinning and just started crying for no reason. I was having a side effect couldn't stop crying. I almost fell 3 times walking into the Dr. office.
Now the fun part, they gave me a shot for more pain med (like I need any more). Then a needle to num my cervix, I felt a little pain. Then, I had all kinds of stuff shoved up my cervix EX 2 metal things, camera, tube with liquid and machine that inserts the coils.
I did yoga breathing to relax. The first coil a little pain and the other coil, I didn't feel a thing. 1 closed and reopened side effect from the medication. I've got a strong pain tolerance. I'm a mom of 2 with kids natural births.
This was not painful. I would recommend Essure. PS, I've had a more painful pap smear, used the wrong tongs.
I didn't need any of those pain medications after the Essure. I did take the nausea pill. I feel great just going to take it easy. I do need to wear a pad.
So far okay!
I am a newbie to the procedure. I had it done October 17th a day after my period. The procedure itself was not that bad- mild discomfort and cramping like they stated. I was dizzy and unable to function on my own right after the procedure so i had to wait until the drugs wore off. I had cramping the same day and day after. I also started to bleed spot again. After four days things the spotting was over. I was given Birth Control as a backup method and i began them the same day as the procedure. Well 8 days after the procedure- i started cramping again. These cramps are pretty bad and had me researching on the internet of course. My period was 2weeks ago so i doubt they are period cramps. I took an ovulation test to see if i was ovulating and i am not. so next week I will contact my doctor to see if cramping is normal. I was under the impression the birth control would help with cramping but today thats not the case.
I just had this procedure done. Well attempted. They told me it would take 15 minutes. After a hour, the doctor stopped because He could not insert the device into my tubes. He said there was blockage. He only stopped because i was in shock shaking and crying from the pain. The doctor said that that was the first time that has happend. I think they should do an ultrsound or something to make sure that you are a candidate for this procedure. I felt like i was being totured.
I had mine done yesterdays
but Dr. was only able to insert on the right side and told me that the left might not even be working he told me that we would try in 3 weeks.
i had it done in june 2010 and have had severe pain ever since been thru 4 drs now and finally found one not trying to make me think im crazy. the pain is horrible
I had the essure procedure done on 10/7 of this year. Everything went great during the procedure, and had the cramping and light bleeding like they said. Now,almost two weeks later I feel nauseated and uneasy in my stomach. And have also had the worst case of headaches almost like a migraine. Just curious if anyone else has felt like this? And if this may have something to do with the procedure?
I had no complaints with the procedure itself. My insurance won't pay for it to be done in the clinic, so I was sent to the hospital's outpatient surgery center and it was done under general anesthesia. I woke up feeling fine, and felt only the expected cramping after. I was given a prescription of Tylenol with codeine to relieve that discomfort, and have felt fine since then. I feel terrible for you ladies after reading what pain you were put through.
My concern is now, 2 1/2 weeks later. I'm ovulating and experiencing terrible cramps with it. I've never felt pain like this during ovulation before and have to assume it's from the procedure. I'll definitely be calling the clinic today to speak with my doctor about this to find out if this is normal and what can be done.
I had the essure procedure done 2 years ago. I have had nothing but migranes, severe back pain, cramping, burning....My doctor sugar coated it saying it was the miracle birth control. When I complained to him, he told me I just wanted more pain medicine. The fact is he was one of the first to do the procedure and didnt want ANY negative feedback. I am now having a hysterectomy and having them removed. I regret the day I fell for his sales pitch...and thats all it was.
I just had the procedure done two days ago and it went perfectly!! They gave me vicodin and valium to take prior to the procedure (which made me feel like a teenager again!) that really helped me deal with the pain better. It was a bit more painful than I was told it would be...but it lasted only 10-15 minutes. Unfortunatly I had bleeding right after the procedure that they had to stop before they would let me go...so they used this stuff that looks like peanut butter to help clot the blood. The aftermath of that is a brownish discharge that looks a little like cigarette ashes, yep thats gross. I didnt have any nausea or headache afterwards, all I had was severe cramping in my legs and abdomen...but as soon as I got home I took a nap and woke up feeling great. Two days later I have minor cramping and my period decided to make its appearance again (I just ended it a week ago, so thats no fun). I would definatly reccommend getting this procedure, but do your homework first. Pick a reputable doctor (even if its NOT your regular OBGYN). :)
I had this procedure done more than 5 years ago. I do recommend the procedure, if you are positive you do not want to have any more children. I had no problems with the procedure, or the recovery. To this day, including today, i have had severe back pain along the hip in the back and abdominal pain where i think my ovary is, off and on over the years, just at the time when I think I should be ovulating. It has not been every month, but occasional. I have never had any other problems other than these types. I was happy to find this website to see that others who have had the procedure done, also suffer with these "ovulation pains". When i have a bad month with this issue, it can be debilitating. Believe me I have considered every other possibility. I thought maybe it could be appendicitis, or a kidney stone, once my knee was majorly inflamed, and the next day it will be gone. Unexplainable. Once right after my procedure, I thought I had a kidney infection because it seemed to be in the lower back. I went to the emergency room for the whole night, only to be dismissed with a "take an advil, and wait it out." The next day the pain was gone. They cultured my urine. No signs of an infection. So looking back, I think I have been having the same reactions all this time. There must be some pressure in the fallopian tube, as the body tries to assimilate the trapped ovum. All I know is it is so painful. Anyone else with this experience? Or any knowledge about the assimilation process?
I did not have pain, cramps nor nausea during or after the procedure. My procedure was done in jan, '07. since then, my only problem is heavy menstration. it gradually increase in flow as well as frequency. i was anemic to start out with. last month, i was hospitalized for low hemoglobin. I wonder how many of you share my problem.
I was scheduled to have the Essure procedure done just last Friday, 10/8/10. I didn't really research it - my doctor recommended it, the brochure looked great, my insurance covered it, and it seemed so easy!
I followed instructions and took Motrin the night before and the morning of the procedure. I also took the prescribed Valium. When I arrived, they gave me a shot of something in my hip (it burned!) that they compared to more ibuprofen. I was told it was to make me more comfortable during the procedure.
I had no worries. I didn't really think there would be any pain or complications - I was just looking forward to getting it over with and not worrying about an unplanned pregnancy or birth control again. But let me tell you....IT HURT! I was taken aback at how painful it was getting! The doctor compared it to getting a needle at the dentist and I'm saying "You're putting a needle in my organs??" She grinned and said, "Yeah, they don't put that part in the brochure!" Ok, so I figure I will grin and bear it and it will all be over. But she couldn't find my tubes. Then she told me she might have perforated my uterus, which was "no biggie."
She had to stop the procedure and order an ultrasound to have a look at the shape of my uterus. I just had that ultrasound today and the tech could see where my uterus was perforated, but didn't see anything unusual about the shape of my uterus. My doctor has me tentatively scheduled for the procedure again in a few weeks, pending the results of the ultrasound, but now I'm not so sure. She wants to do it in the operating room this time and under twilight sleep, since I was so uncomfortable.
I was really gung-ho to have this done, but I'm having second thoughts. Especially after talking to some people, and everyone's biggest worries are that: A. you are putting foreign objects in your body and the body has ways of fighting that and B. there are no long term studies. Plus, with my doctor making a mistake on the first time around, I wonder how she'll do when I'm under anesthesia?
So I decided to see if there were others out there with negative stories, and here I am! The idea of having some mysterious pain in my back or legs or belly or unexplained headaches, etc is horrifying! I wanted to get this done to be FREE, you know? So my husband is now considering a vascectomy, even though he doesn't have insurance. But he worries about losing me now, which honestly could happen!
I don't know what I'm going to do, but I'm leaning towards cancelling. Or at the very least, asking more questions of my doctor, instead of blindly trusting her and a stupid brochure.

I had this procdure performed in October of 2009, after the birth of my 3rd child. I had it done without any anesthetic or pain relievers. I have a high tolerance for pain, as I delivered all three of my 9lb+ babies naturally without pain killers. However, in the past 2.5 years since the procedure, I have had SEVERE cramping and nausea intermittently, and my periods are horrible. It's awful. I find that I can barely catch my breath when it occurs. I haven't had any sort of follow up after the required diagnostics to see that the tubes were fully blocked, so I don't know what to do. Will finally have health insurance again next month. Hoping that I am not allergic to the metal used.
I am starting to see many different negative comments about Essure. I had my Essure done in January 2010. I did not want to be cut and go through the pain and long recovery related to the regular tubligation. I had just recovered from my c-section and was not trying to go through that again so soon! It was great and I would definitely recommend it. There was little pain and I only experienced cramping like the kind associated with my cycle. It was administered by the same doctor that delivered my daughter via emergency c-section 2 months prior. When he was done I was shock because it took no more than 15 minutes and they played soft music and offered me something to drink. He had no problem inserting the coils and I was amazed how little the pain was. There was another woman with me in the recovery area (not sure why it was needed because I only had light cramping) and she asked for more pain medicine because she was cramping really bad. I guess the fact of the matter is every woman body is different. Just because one person had complications doesn't mean another will. I am 28 and if I had to do it all again...I WOULD!

I had my essure procedure done a month ago. The procedure itself was quick a lil more then the mild discomfort the dr had mentioned. They gave me local anesthesia which left me a lil loopy but nothing bad. Dr. gave me a card that i have to carry with me when i travel which i have to show in case the metal detector goes off at security check =/ ...Ever since the procedure i have been noticing a couple of weird things going on with my body. I have been getting a lot more headaches now but didn't really blame it on the essure. I have a toddler and a 5 month old and not to mention work and just everyday stress. However, my headaches have been more intense close to migranes. I can def feel the coils when i cramp. i have to go back in two months to get the xrays done. I thought it was a regular xray procedure but reading it now i see that it's a lot more complicated. i'm so not looking forward to that. I wish i would have seen this site before i got the procedure done, looking back at it now i wouldn't have had it done. I def do not recomend, i just hope that things don't go bad and i end up pregnant. I can't afford anymore kids.

Did anyone have a bad experience with the Essure procedure? During the procedure the Dr. said I had a spasm in my tubes. It has been very painful since with back and abdominal pain, headaches. The Dr. never mentioned this many problems.

I am 26 years old I would like a tubal ligation. However, doctors refuse to do it because of my age. Does anyone know of a doctor that will do the procedure on someone who is young, does not have children, and is certain she will never want children?
