Why does my router sometimes suddenly drop connection and gets really slow and then jumps back up to good connection again?

Depending on the router many are pre confured to stop or block Broadcast and or multicast packets. Possibly a machine on your network is infected with something that is broadcasting and your router is dumping all the broadcast packets at once instead of kiling them as they come in.
