You're reading If I were to milk a non-dairy cow, some breed commonly raised for meat, how would the milk taste compared to that from a breed specifically raised to produce milk, like a Jersey?
Comments
Thanks, I talked to a fellow yesterday who was raised on a dairy farm and he said the same thing. He said the food they eat also affects the taste of the milk & lots of nice hay makes good milk.

Right. I worked in a creamery that bought milk from farmers on summer. We took milk back to farmers when their cows got into certain types of weeds (free range cows of course).

I guess my answer would be wrong then. however, would I be correct in assuming from what you have said that diet changes the taste more than breed?

Oh yes! There are some types of weeds out there (for free range cows) that makes the milk taste/smell really bad. Cows who have their diet monitored and selected give the best tasting milk.
