If you have a good, sharp television then yes, it is. The picture will be noticably clearer. On old or blurry televisions, you may not notice the difference.

First, check if you have an S-Video port on your TV. The quality will improve noticeably, but not hugely. If you really need a nice, crisp picture, then S-Video is the way to go. It also depends on your television; You have to have a good quality TV to see the benefits.

The S-Video output is only of use if your TV has an S-Video input. If your TV does have an S-Video input then it will definitely be an improvement over the composite (or RF) output. Only fairly late model TVs have S-inputs, and even better is a 'Component' input, only on the very latest models.

I work for a large Home Theater install group, so by all means, if you can hook it up component (Red, Green, Blue RCA Connectors) PLEASE DO! S-Video is awful, if you break wind within 100 feet on that thing, it will fall out of the back of the TV and magically disappear in your wire spaghetti void. The problem is it does not lock in to it's input like other standards (RCA namely, DVI, HDMI sorta), instead it uses hopes and wishes to stay in. And if you are gonna put it in blind, grab a chair and a PBR, because it's gonna be a LONG day, and god forbid you bend one of the pins on that thing, it's over Johnny. So, don't get it, unless you have nothing to do for most of the day.
