I'm not sure if it's that he has no substance, it's honestly that he appears a little shifty, and his political history (as little as that is) contradicts some of my bneliefs. Either way, I'd call it hype. He is appealing because he appears fresh and down to earth, but that's nowhere near the top of my list when I choose who to vote for.

So says mccain.
-
That's definitely not the case, he came a long way to be at the point he is at right now... he is certainly a very educated, diligent and capable man his policies worry me, reason i might be voting 3rd party this year but i think he is a great candidate
-
That's what I've been saying since he rose to preeminence.

The way I look at it, Obama may not be the best candidate my country could possibly have, but he's still the best option out of what we've got. Even if a lot of what Barack Obama says turns out to be unrealistic, I'd say it's better to have a president who at least has a vague intention to properly enact good policies than a president (i.e. McCain) with a specific intention to enact bad policies. Is knowing and saying exactly what you're going to do always something to brag about? It reminds me of the line from the Joker in the latest Batman movie: "You see, nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying." Even if McCain's policies would be the *Worst* possible path for the nation to take, even if he started WWIII, there would still be a faction of people standing behind him on the belief that everything went "According to Plan", the same way they did with Reagan and Nixon and Bush.

Style never comes without substance

No, I don't think so at all.
-
As with all politicians, yes. He is as phony as every other presidential candidate. People don't become president to serve the United States. They do it for power and other self serving needs.
-
Yes. He is a nothing.
-
Nope, although that's what many people want you to believe. Since they can't find enough dirt on him, they have started labeling him and his ideals as superficial, but it's really not the case. Read his books. More specifically, read his book called 'Dreams of my Father' that was written BEFORE he was a politician. You'll see that he truly walks his talk.

I think the new McCain ad that shows him parting the Red Sea is right on the money. He has promised more than anyone save God himself can deliver. McCain skewered him with his own words. He wouldn't be such an easy target if he didn't promise more than he can do.
-
Yes. His speech in Germany sounded so similar to Kennedy's Berlin speech, I began to wonder if he has any original ideas. Karl Marx + Kennedy + Farrakhan = Obama?

Obama may be a nice guy, and all politicians who are running for President want to get elected. They will say whatever is most popular to get them down the road. The question really should be, who is not shifting in what they say more often or fequent than the other. When you answer that than you have found someone who is being most truthful. My trouble with Obama is his shifting of positions too often. The other thing is his inexperience. He has been in politics how long? He is very young, and I feel it is in the best interests of this great Nation to elect someone who has a ton of experience, and a ton of seasoned people with him. We need an experienced President now more than ever. McCain has been around so long he may even remember the fall of Rome. I wouldn't say Obama is all style with no substance, but he sure is catering to his style, and charm, and I feel that he is intentially using it to further his race to the White House.

He seems to be the best case we have, and I'm near crossing out McCain as an option becuase of his childish ads. I want a candidate who can act like an adult, not a teenage girl fighting for the head cheerleader position. I guess to answer your question, he's captures attetnion by caling for change, I think he can do it (especially with some advisors in the White House, if he becomes president and has some ideas that wont work, they'll stop him before he screws up too bad).
