They tried... Tried to rate my 1970 Comet GT (250 6-banger) as a sports car, simply because it had a hood scoop, bucket seats, flashy paint job, and black-matte stripe on the hood (standard stuff).

I'm paying $187 a month for my daughter, I don't know if that's good or bad but she just got her license & she's 16

They always will, when statistics prove that young driver do not have a very good track record with them . There are of course exceptions,I presume you are one,but I'm afraid you all get tared with the same brush.

Let me start by saying, it is not an age thing. Rates are higher for drivers with less than 9 years of driving experience because of the statistically proven higher percentage of claims made. Second, state laws make it nearly impossible for an insurance company to take advantage of anyone. All drivers are rated on an individual basis. Rates are based on many things, some of which include: gender, marital status, years of driving experience, prior insurance, vehicle usage, annual mileage, zip code, vehicle type, coverage amount, and deductible amount (if requested). There are also many types of discounts for auto insurance, a few of which would be: good student discount (3.0 or above), multi-policy discount (life, home, renters, car), good driver discount, claims free discount, defensive driver training discount. Discounts vary by company, but if you give them a call, I'm sure they would be happy to give you some tips on ways to get your rates down.

For the first several years I stuck with the same insurance company, and even though I hadn't had any problems (collisions/tickets) since when I first started driving, they were very slow to lower my rates over the four or so years. Finally I decided to shop around, and found out that every qoute I was given was HALF of what I had been paying at the time. My jaw literally dropped when I was given that first quote.
