If the rash has not cleared up with a week and a half of care then it is time to see the doctor. It sounds like it may likely be a yeasty rash so an antifungal ointment will most likely be prescribed by the pediatrician. Yeast thrives in dark, warm spots, so make sure that your baby's bottom is getting plenty of air time. Use only water or a solution of 1 cup water and 2 tablespoon vinegar with on cotton balls to clean the baby at each change.

If it is yeast you need to get that little tushie out in the air and sun lots! Also dont use chemical laden wipes use plain old water and If you don't think thats enough you can add a little vinegar to the water. A doctor should be consulted antifungal creams can be bought over the counter but only use it with the advice of a professional. I use plain old food grade cornstarch on my girls and never get rashes (only used at night for long wear diapers) Desitine has chemicals too unfortunately that may irritate broken skin. How old is the baby? Have you changed diaper brands or wipes or soap?

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. Buy it. Use it. You WILL NOT be sorry.

(Desitin has never worked for either of our kids.)

    Yarnlady is happy every day

What I had to do was change the baby every hour, without fail, and completely wash the diaper area with clear water and soft wash cloth. No more plastic diapers, or wipies, only soft cotton diapers and wash cloth.

It took several days to clear up. I coated the area with zinc oxide ointment.

It's been a while since my kids were that young but when they had a yeast infection it usually took an antifungle ointment to clear it up.

My kid was allergic to the diapers I was using. Once I changed brands, consulted a Dr. to get the meds to clear it up - it never happened again.
