Earth being blasted and all life destroyed by a gigantic meteor impact. Of course, there would be the grief on the part of the observers from the space station,...but, what could they do? And then, it slowly dawns on them ...that they have no 'home' to go home to. They will live only as long as the supplies on the station last. There will be no more supplies.
