Help answer this question below.
You should be proud of things that YOU had something to DO with.
You didnt have to do anything to be white, you were born that way.
Whoop dee doo.
Why not be proud that youre a cool person, or you have a good sense of humor, etc?
You know, I am not racist what so ever, but you hear so much about how black people are proud to be black, and mexicans are proud to be mexican, which, of course, they have every right to be proud. But, you never hear about a white person being proud of being white. You also don't have a white history month, a month where you can show off why you are proud, where as African-Americans and Latino's, and Asians all have a month to demonstrate how proud they are. I may be wrong, but isn't this racism?
I am too and I'm proud. As long as you aren't racist, I have no problem!!!!!!
I don't - I think a few more of us could do with following your example ;0)
Not at all, be as proud as you like.. though I'm not sure why you'd be proud of something you had no hand in.
Having said that, I'm proud to be Australian.. so I guess I have no room to manoeuvre on that subject.
None at all, im also white and proud, why shouldnt we be!!!!
How are you and the family doing sloth???
I guess there's nothing wrong with it. What I don't understand is why you are proud of something you didn't have anything to do with. Shouldn't pride be for your accomplishments?
i dont, n dont care either...everyone is proud of their race..
I am neither proud or ashamed that I am white...just as I am not proud or ashamed my hair is curly, my nose is turned up at the end a little, my eyes are blue. It is just something I was born with. To be proud of something that you did nothing to achieve doesn't make sense to me.
As long as you realize that being proud of your heritage has nothing whatsoever to do with anyone else's heritage, then no. It is a matter of chance, not choice, that you were born white.
Are you saying you're Albino? I think that is just a genetic anomaly..lack of pigment. You probably have to stay out of the sun or slather yourself with high spf suntan lotion. You might be prone to getting skin cancer so the sun is not your friend! :) Happy Friday! :)
I don't. Good for you. We all should be proud of who we are. Don't let anyone take that from you.
Yes. I think it's stupid to be proud of things you had no control over.
I'm proud to have blue eyes!
Only if your white pride comes with a skinhead and a swasticka.
Nope, and I couldn't care less what color you are!
Hussein Obama might.
No, but why? what's the matter with you? is that a sickness? contagious? why should anybody have a problem with that? sweety you're fine its normal.
Yes. I have a problem with ANYONE who takes great pride in doing or being something which is totally beyond their control. Be proud of what you accomplish, not the color of your skin. : )
I don't know - how white are you? Kinda of an eggshell? Maybe bone or lily white? I need more information; there has to be at least 99 shades of white and are you referring to only your face? How about the bottom of your feet or the palms of your hands? How about your great great grandfather on your mother's side that no one would ever talk about? Nope, sorry not enough information.
Nope. I take pride in my accomplishments though.
I never really understood being proud of skin color, black or white.
Tell us, what in particular makes you proud to be white?
It's an interesting thing, I'm proud to be Scottish, I suppose. But I've never felt proud to be white. Don't see any reason to.
Why ask such a question? are you that insecure?
u can be as proud as you want to be just not in public or on the job or at school or anywhere else thats not your home or youre labelled as a racist if youre white...its a double standard and im against that im also against affirmative action and the like but thats for another discussion...im white and im proud of it and everyone should be proud of who they are
not at all.
What is it about your whiteness that makes you so proud?
I'm proud to be Canadian, not white.
no, i'm proud that my grandfather came from denmark. it's only when one believes their race, creed, nationality or religion is superior to others i have a problem.
It's ok to be proud of who you are but if you are saying that you look down on anyone that isn't white then I would have a problem with it.
Is that something you accomplished yourself?
;-)
how can you take pride in something you didn't achieve
How can you be proud of something you didn't accomplish? Now it would be a different story of if you were proud of your heritage. I know I am, and I also happen to be white. People would only have a problem with you if you thought being white was better than say..being black, or hispanic...you see what i'm getting at? It didn't sound like you were saying that at all so no, I don't have a problem with you being proud to be white.
No, unless you had a problem with other people being proud of the color they are even though they had nothing to do with it. Do you have a problem with that?
Nope. Why should I?
People tend to associate "pride in being white" with "supremacy"... that is not correct.
Not one jot more than I have a problem with people who are black and proud of it or hispanic and proud of it or Asian and proud of it....It's good to be proud of who you are.
we should all be proud of our ancestry - without a doubt!
I'm black and proud of it, and hope nobody has a problem with that!
::Ideally though, I agree that we shouldn't *need* a "Black history month" or "Asian history month"...History should be taught more diversely altogether.::
This is rediculous. I am so sick of people in the majority talking about how minorities don't deserve days that are nationally recognized where they can take even more pride in who they are and raise awareness and consciousness of their group and it's culture and needs. Whenever a white person complains about black history month, it is so unbelievably ignorant and is a clear example of majority privilege. Do white people not realize that EVERY DAY in America is white history day? Heaven forbid a minority have a day or month to celebrate it's role in this great nation. As far as you being white and proud, good for you. Be proud of being yourself and be happy with who you are. Just don't deprive other people of that joy when a moment arises for them to be happy too.
Nope. Im glad you are confident in your self. And no you cannot help what you were born to be but you can be proud of it :)
If you are not racist then no one has any problem with that.
My brother is also proudy of being a white, I feel there is a thin line between proud and proudy.
Are you proudy?
Who gives a f**k.
Not me. Do you have a problem with it?
of course not?
i mean, daaaaaaah
why would anyone have a problem with that?
i dont!!!
but....
*if you are racist?
then i do have a problem!
I m fed up and want to do what is necessary.do I make my self transpzarrent.
Take it out and show us.
Not I. I'm curious what exactly you are proud of though. Us whites don't exactly have a great track record.
nope..i'm white..well i'm a little tan but i have no problem with anyone being proud of their color..as long as there is no violence in getting the message across
I've never seen a "white" person in my life......I'be glad to meet with one soon....where can we meet?
No.
I am more proud of my race, than my color. I am more proud of my culture than the country i live in. I have a problem with that. You are proud to be white. And yet you arent white. An oxymoron. you are more pink. with a touch of grey if you are an old person.
No. Our skin is only different, but not our Souls.

Good answer:)
by Redman on July 25th, 2008
That is exactly how I see it too. I am proud of ACCOMPLISHMENTS, such as being alive, have 2 wonderful children, graduating from uni ect.
The point of this question was a discussion I had on facebook about ethnics being proud to be black/asian/whatever and not be racist but white people are racist as soon as they suggest the same thing.
TY for your answer
by slothmister on July 25th, 2008
I have notice a definite double standard. I have never heard of a white history month.
by Phillis - Zacks little sister on July 25th, 2008
Indeed, nor MOWO (Music of white origin) award ceremonies, nor white only churches, nor white only education grants ect ect. I am anti discrimination in all forms and now even the governments discriminate against white people, WTF? Sort it out! WE ARE ALL EQUAL! TREAT US EQUALLY!!!
by slothmister on July 26th, 2008
Now you are talking have yourself a great day.:)
by Redman on July 26th, 2008
I have to admit to feeling the same exact way. How hard can it be to see the person, not the color? In our ideals, we blindfolded Lady Justice for a reason, so the concept isn't new. I do not feel I owe anyone any apologies whatsoever for what other people did who were born before me. I refuse to apologize for anyone's grievous errors but my own. I am equally fair to everyone in all aspects of my life, not because I am forced to, but because it feels right inside me. My one and only prejudice is attitude, not skin color.
by Phillis - Zacks little sister on July 26th, 2008
I have to disagree with your comments @Slothmister and Phillis:
.
1) You've never heard of a "White history month"? That's because the whole year is usually white history. Black or Asian history months are held to give a diverse perspective to children who are often turned off by the Eurocentrism in teaching. A "white history month" would be redundant.
.
2) Nearly all major music publications consider 60's pop/rock (ie. Elvis, Beatles, Sinatra, Rolling Stones) as the greatest music of all time, trivializing the plethora of musical styles and histories which may have never even been heard by people today.
.
3) No whites-only churches? Do you really want to live in the confederacy?
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 2nd, 2008
1) How is the whole year a white history year? I can not think of one single holiday that is purely a "white" holiday and I challenge you to name one.
.
2) You have a slight point here, but it is irrelevant to the discussions at hand. We have Music of Black Origins awards, but no music of white origins. That is the whole point of this discussion. How do you think the none white population would respond if we suddenly had an award we called Music of White Origin Award?
.
3) I do not understand what you mean by this comment. Where I live there is NO white churches at all and strictly speaking, there is no black churches, but there are churches where white people do not go due to the reception they receive if they do go there.
by slothmister on October 2nd, 2008
1) Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Kepler, Darwin, Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Euclid, Pythagoras, Columbus, Elizabeth, Henry VIII, Napoleon, Washington, Churchill, Shakespeare...
.
There's enough taught about these figures in public schools and universities to last you a lifetime. How many important Indian, Arabic, African, and Asian scientists, philosophers, explorers, politicians, and authors can the average person name off the top of their head?
.
2) Same issue. Nobody needs a music of white origins awards, because music of white origins is shoved down everyone's throat, as if all other origins' are inferior. Especially from the middle-ages to the 20th century, there's literally almost no teaching of music other than European classical. Violins and Oboes ain't the be-all-end-all folks!
.
3) What I mean is, a whites-only church would inevitably harken back to the days of open racism, found in the Confederate states where churches were segregated. Not exactly something worth reviving.
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 3rd, 2008
1) where the heck do you live where we celebrate ANY of them days? Oh and btw, Columbus was Hispanic, not white, Copernicus, Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Euclid and Pythagoras were all Greek, closer to Hispanic to white.
.
How many important Indian, Arabic, African, and Asian scientists, philosophers, explorers, politicians, and authors have effected civilisation in a large way?
.
2) What a load of bollox! Turn on ANY radio where I live and its full of rap, RnB (the new type), drum n bass, uk garage ect ect ect. Go to any music or dance school and about 80% of them will teach you break dancing or how to play the drums ect rather than a violin.
.
3) I agree completely, but why should I not be allowed into a church cos I am white? Thats discriminating against me.
by slothmister on October 3rd, 2008
1) Hispanic? There wasn't even a distinguishable difference among those ethnicities in ancient times. Greek history could hardly be called "Hispanic History".
.
Your question just shows my point: Eurocentrism. Many of the great European academics were much more influenced by other civilizations than most historians have realized. Newton discovered gravity because an apple fell on his head? Garbage. Much earliers Indian texts describe not only Gravity, but theories that the Earth may be round and not in the center.
.
2) I'm talking about history (you mentioned "origins") - I know today, radios mostly play hip hop and similar music: But 1600-1900 equals almost completely European Classical, as far as the history of music - as most westerners know it - is concerned.
.
3) I agree there. There should be no "X-race only", or even implicit "no-X race" churches. The only acceptable case, would be when religion and ethnicity intersect (ie. Judaism)
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 3rd, 2008
1) Yes, Greek history is Greek history, but it sure is NOT white history! As for Newton, the apple theory is a myth, it never happened. As for the ancient texts, that may be true, but the point is that Newton is the person that brought Gravity to the modern science world, not some ancient, as yet, undiscovered works in some cave somewhere.
.
2) Indeed this is true, but it does not justify the MOBO awards.
.
3) I disagree with the last part. Why limit a church/mosque ect to any specific race? Limit it to believers and those who are genuinely curious, sure, but NOT to any specific race.
by slothmister on October 3rd, 2008
1) Well, fear no more - your evidence has been found, and not in some cave...Look up "Bhaskara II"
.
3) I'm not advocating limiting churches or mosques either. I just mentioned Judaism (specifically Orthodox Judaism) because the "Jewish" religion and Jewish race go hand-in-hand. Though reform Jews tend to allow people of other races, which is their choice / But anyway, there's nothing you or I could do about it - it's their religion, they have the constitutional right to limit entry to their establishments if they want.
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 4th, 2008
Where I live there is NO constitutional rights. I live in a free society where people are NOT allowed to be refused entry to any establishment based on their race.

Deeds not words.....BRILLIANT!!! Excellent play, AS! I considered what you said and I agree. White history month would be redundant. I spoke out of frustration rather than remembering American history, didn't I? In fairness, how should I handle those who choose to cheat the system based on the color of their skin? It really DOES happen, you know, regardless of history. I would not ask this except from personal experience several times over. Thank you for your time.
by Phillis - Zacks little sister on October 11th, 2008
Thanks Phillis. I myself am especially interested in other perspectives; There have just been so many cases of exaggeration or lying ("Columbus was a heroic adventurer", "The Vikings were dumb savages")...I guess you could call me a revisionist.
.
Ideally though, I agree that we shouldn't *need* a "Black history month" or "Asian history month"...History should be taught more diversely altogether.
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 12th, 2008
Also, oftentimes people accept - as you say - explanations based on people's skin color (i.e. She's Chinese, therefore she probably knows Chinese history)...But it is more important to be able to see through the color of the storyteller, and see what's left, which is the spirit in which the story is told: For truth? For entertainment? For national pride?
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on October 12th, 2008
What an excellent point. I am so brainwashed I never looked at it that way, but that is exactly what I do in my personal life. I don't see color, but rather, attitude....which covers what both of us are saying, I believe. Viva la revisionists! I am all for hearing your perspectives. I love learning :))
by Phillis - Zacks little sister on October 12th, 2008
There is a simple but very true statement that can help explain the nature of history, "To the victors go the spoils". So the dominate race, or culture will often have history reflect everything from the point of view of the majority, simple things like art, imagine that China was a totally christian nation, do you think they would hang pictures of Jesus as a white person with brown hair? he would probably be reflected as looking more Asian.
by olan black on June 22nd, 2009
As far as recognition of minorities in the US, or special awards, because minorities are just that, most mainstream items are marketed for the majority. simple things, band-aids are "flesh colored" but who's flesh? Shampoo commercials talk about having silky smooth hair when you use it, but How much would a black person have to use to get "silky smooth hair". basically, the majority of things are celebrations of the majority, and to an extent, non-inclusive of minorities. BET exist so they can advertise to a minority for products that the majority doesn't use, Hair relaxers, shaving equipment that helps black men fight razor bumps, skin creams and lotions that are specifically for people of color. History in the US is not inclusive of many things, so they have "special times" when the general public is made aware of historic facts that are left out of mainstream education.
by olan black on June 22nd, 2009
I agree, Olan Black.
.
As for portrayals of prophets such as Jesus...believe it or not, that hypothetical situation you stated is actually a reality; looking at the religious art around the world, Jesus and Mary actually are portrayed with different skin colors, with different dress and cultural symbols, depending on where you go. To look at the classical Roman Jesus, and then compare him with a Polish Jesus, and an Ethiopian Jesus...you'd think they were different people.

I was reading some of the comments above, slothmister incorrectly states that "Columbus was Hispanic". Not true, Spanish people are European, Hispanic is a recent race classification that refers to mixed race people living in areas that were formerly conquered by the Spanish. this would include, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Most of South America. a visit to some of these countries would show a very wide variety of skin tones. The population of Panama, if it was classified racially like the US would be about 90% black.
by olan black on June 22nd, 2009
Columbus was definitely not Hispanic...he wasn't even Spanish!
.
That's a common misconception, due to the fact that Columbus sailed under the Spanish banner; Most of the evidence would suggest that Columbus himself was actually from Genoa (in modern Italy).
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on June 23rd, 2009
@Olan black
My poor, misinformed friend. Columbus was Italian, first of all. And there's sufficient evidence now that points to the idea that he probably also Jewish. Than notwithstanding ALL Spanish people (except for the Basques) are Hispanic. Hispanic is not a race. It has nothing to do with geography. It has to do with the language that you speak. In fact, the old name for Spain was Hispania, from which the modern España is derived.
You can compare the idea to that of Celt. If your mother tongue was a Celtic one, you were a Celt (nothing to do with 'race'). If you speak french, you're a Francophone. If you mother tongue is Arabic, you're an Arab (no matter how black [yes, there are black arabs], no matter how white [yes, there are white arabs]).
Hispanic works the same way, if someone's mother tongue is: Castellano, Catalan, Valenciano, Asturian, Gallego, Andaluz, or any other variety of Spanish, that person is Hispanic. Those are the facts!
