  • Not as common, but I'd imagine it still happens.
  • not as common as cutting, but still a very common form of self harm/mutilation. Sadly, it is happening more often than people realize.
  • it's not as common as cutting, but it's still common. i've been acquainted with several people who burn themselves.
  • yeah it is, not as common as cutting from what i know but still many people do it.
  • why dont you just get branded "i need help" that is some pain you have and will never want to experience AGAIN
  • Just because it's common doesn't mean it's not something one should talk to a doctor about.
  • for someone who self mutilates, the best of both words is to hold a blade in a flame for a while, and then cut with it so it burns the skin at the same time.
  • Yes. More so than you'd think. I've been a Self injurer "Cutter" for about 6 years and been a part of an online support community primarily for self injurers for almost as long. During that time I've seen all types of "methods" and nothing would surprise me anymore. Probably the second most common type of Self Inflicted Injuries are burns. I'd also like to mention, as a Self Injurer, that Self Mutilation is not a phrase that we like to use. The word Mutilation tends to imply that the injuries are done for aesthetic reasons. There are many reasons someone might cut (or burn, which is actually more common than you might think), but scars are one of the least common, although most people will come to accept their scars and some might even get upset when they start to fade, as they represent parts of our lives that serve as reminders. However, as I said before, scars are almost never the sole or even primary intention. (sry if that sounded kind of lecturey but i like to spread awareness wherever i can) Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents as someone who's been there.
  • Yeah, about as common as your average mental illness
  • actually, cutting is the first step to "self mutilating" when ppl have cut for a while, the want more and go for more pain that they can feel even better. i cut and burn...my first burn was an eraser burn, second was a smiley face and then i dont remember after that.
