  • No. The cop isn't putting any ideas about committing a crime in your head. In fact, the only reason you would ask that is because you already had the idea to commit a crime in your head.
  • Nope. The "are you a cop" bit is a rumor circulated by police to instill a false sense of security in people often targeted by sting operations, such as drug dealers, prostitutes, Johns, and people trying to hire hitmen. An example of entrapment is the undercover posing as a drug dealer telling a customer that if he doesn't buy drugs, he's going to kill them. This essentially forces them into committing the crime, and is entrapment.
  • sounds reasonable... thank you guys for your answers
  • No, it would defeat the whole purpose of being undercover. Many states do not have entrapment laws. So, it really would make no difference. The Supreme Court has ruled that the police can lie, in order to arrive at the truth. Hope this answers your question.
  • That came up recently in a sting operation here in our area. When some people were sent notices that they had won a lottery and needed to come pick up their prize, they asked "Is this one of those cop stings I heard about?" They were assured it was real, but when they showed up, they were arrested on outstanding warrants. The judge ruled it was not entrapment.
  • Um, are YOU an undercover cop??..LOL...
  • hahaha that is hilrious i love the simpsons
  • Only on tv :)
  • no, but, if it a police officer posing as a hooker, she will NOT give you a "free flash".....
  • No, that is a fallacy...
  • No, Entrapment is the act of a law enforcement agent in inducing a person to commit an offense which the person would not have, or was unlikely to have, otherwise committed.
  • not in Ohio, thats a vey bad urban myth!!!
  • No, if that were true alot of undercover officers would be killed in the line of duty. Also no one would ever get busted. And it is very hard to prove entrapment to the courts.
  • Never mind... answered by mistake.
  • Absolutely not. However, the police are glad to have people believe that it's true. It makes sting operations a lot easier, and a little less dangerous.
  • no, but if you ask are you a cop because i have an emergency and i need immediate assistance and they say no then you have them by the balls
  • Laws vary world wide ... ... most countries that use undercover police have some sort of exemption law that will allow the police officer to tell certain lies, such as, "No, I'm not a police officer." ... ... if you really need to know who is a cop and who is a criminal, there are criminal organizations that deal in information ... they can sell you a detailed list of everyone who has ever joined the police in your country, and even their school records going back to elementary ...
  • I seriously doubt it, since police are allowed to lie when questioning a suspect.
