Read the manual for the TV. If it talks about ATSC, digital television, HDTV, EDTV, or SDTV, or says it has a digital tuner, you are set. If the set says it's "HDTV-ready", it probably does *NOT* have a digital tuner. For a few years, manufacturers were holding off putting digital tuners in TV sets until the cable companies decided on a digital standard that they were going to use. In the mean time, they made TVs that the capability of displaying high-definition signals via the component video inputs. To make one of these TVs really HDTV compatible, you need an external tuner which accepts either cable or an antenna, and outputs component video for the TV.
