  • Has he ever talked to a psychiatrist? People with lifelong nightmares (as bad as your sons) can sometimes be cured of them just by talking with a good psychiatrist (the Dr. knows how to get to what is causing the nightmares and help him through it). Good Luck
  • Try searching for info on night terrors. It sounds like this may be what he is having. Your doctor may be able to suggest other avenues to explore. Perhaps seeing a sleep clinic doctor. If this has been a lifelong thing he needs some professional help. Unfortunately, at 19, you can't just make him go for that help.
  • Sounds more like a night terror. You could call a sleep disorder facilitator.
  • I would try sleeping with a White Noise Machine or with the tv. on a snowy channel (check listings to make sure the station will not "sign on" and wake him with loud music or voices. If it is a recurring nightmare, it may be from a repressed feeling or memory, and talking with peers might help. If its about a living person, try talking with family and counsillors, or perhaps the person in the dream, if its safe. If its a lost loved one, perhaps visiting the grave or doing something to get "closure" might help.
