When the head honcho dies, he will probably take the simpsons with him. Shows are rarely continued after their origonal creater leaves...and he's got good half-dozen seasons left in him.

Possibly when one of the voice actors dies. Or if it sucks and nobody watches it anymore. It seems ludicrous now, but who knows what will happen in ten or twenty years? (Look at Saturday Night Live - great in the 70's and 80's but somewhere in the 90's it became awful).

Same thing that happened with Star Trek, in my opinion. When Gene Roddenberry died, his Number One kept it going, but it managed to (slowly, and painfully) lose all of the essence that made it what it was. Eventually, it got to the point where huge fans would pretend it doesn't exist. "Enterprise? That never happened. It wasn't real" Only, with Matt Groening gone... I'm not certain he has a Rick Berman around to take over...
