Help answer this question below.
I am no introvert by any stretch of the imagination. Parties are an opportunity to make others laugh, be witty and have a great time! So why is that I have such great anxiety when I have to speak in public??? What is the difference??
I think the difference is that everyones attention is focused on you and only you while you speak as opposed to you choosing whom to interact with in small groups. I am some what the oposite. i frequently speak to very large crowds and have no problem with it at all but put me in a social setting and i can sometimes be introvert
(1) smaller groups.
(2) interact with friends
(3) it's your house, or that of a friends
(4) you can time and pace yourself more easily
(5) practice, practice, practice.
We've talked in small groups most of our lives.
Public speaking less commonly.

I think maybe it's because lots of people are watching you all at the same time and at your parties you can take a guest one at a time and be a hit. Maybe?

Yes, that's partly it. I just don't know why I feel so extremely nervous at the beginning. I literaly have that deer in the headlights look on my face. Why the panic? Why does it affect people that way? Why does public speaking trigger the fight or flight response for so many? There has to be an evolutionary explanation. It's the only thing I can figure. Intruiging.
