I believe I heard the number is falling. They're thinking of adding them to the endangered species list.

I've seen both written about. Hard to know who to believe. Many claim that the increase seen in bears is due mainly to the fact that the bears can no longer go out on the far ice like they once did so they are more concentrated than ever but in reality there are less bears over the whole domain of the white bear. It's simple reduction of habitat makes for a false increase.

Last I heard they were rising. And since they consider us as prey, I don't understand why we are so concerned about them.

Actually.... There are different subpopulations for polar bears. Depending on which subpopulation they are, their population increase/decrease varies. Also, there are many threats to the Polar Bear populations. I'm including these to debunk the answer which claim the numbers are rising because Al Goreis just some guy who claims global warming is killing the Polar Bears. Falling, unfortunately.

They are severely falling because of global warming.Their natural habitat is shrinking because the frost line is continually moving north.Also in the springtime they need to hunt for food after hibernation.The ice flows that they ride on to hunt food are now shrinking and further away from each other and countless thousands now die from drowning.

Rising, there is a Polar Bear boom on the Easter Arctic being well kept out of the media by Al Gore and the UN puppets that want to pass the global warming scam as truth. Polar bears were wrongly added to the near extinction species just to promote the global warming scam.
