You can do a few things, one you can buy some repellent. If you don't like DEET or any artificial creations, citronella is a natural plant alternative which can assume the form in candles (as said before), oils in those fancy lawn oil lights, or as a cream. Though citronella is natural, it has been known not to be good to put on the skin and in some places (US i think still) it is illegal as a cream. Honestly, though this involves radio waves and sounds a bit scary, I have personally seen and can testify that electronic mosquito repellors do work. they are small lantern like devices that emit a high frequency that mosquitoes turn away from. Obviously they will not work in the deep dark forest but they are good from keeping them away from houses or back yards. They can have a massive range or smaller versions cover a distance of a property. To me, they keep the bugs away, they don't kill them and it doesn't harm me and isn't toxic to the environment, I like them.

My wife says that you should use a product by Avon Cosmetics called 'Skin So Soft' Just spray some on exposed skin and rub it in,and the mosquito's stay clear of your skin. The UK Special Air Servive (SAS) use a non scented variety, and it really works.
