I assume you are asking in cats category , to find a food source for the pooch? Cats really aren't good dog eatin'. Not enough meat. If you are asking about getting a beagle or hound, why not try http://www.washhumane.org/ , http://www.metropets.org/ , http://www.warl.org/ . If you truly want either of those two breeds and as a responsible pet owner, are willing to wait for one to adopt, that may be the avenue to pursue. Buying off a breeder just makes a vacancy they will want to fill, leading to either a dog that's over bred or at the very least, opening yet another space in the chain for a possibly unwanted pet. Why not give an unwanted pet a chance? Sometimes it's not the fault of the animal, but the owner, that puts them in an adoption situation and sometimes humans lie. I currently have a pound puppy that was supposed to hate other dogs, cats, people, according to the history provided by the previous owner, to get rid of him. My cat sleeps in the dog house with him, people he doesn't know, play ball with him and my parrot will share his food bowl with him (yuk). Try the pounds first. Little wonder I truly dislike most people. We're our own domesticated animals worst nightmare at times.

craigs list, or your local Animal Shelter!!

Go take a look at your local animal shelter. There are millions of dogs in these shelters that need a home. Supporting a breeder is not in the best interest of any dog, if you truly care about the animals.

I have been an animal rescuer for 5 years now and my suggestion would be to go to an animal shelter or rescue facilty and save the life of an animal. Bless

BE CAREFUL of any commercial breeder...such as one listed here....they may be connected with a PUPPY MILL or BACKYARD BREEDERS who are NOT being careful with their breed lines! I personally believe that for a "PET QUALITY" dog, the number one choice is to start with rescue groups, and the pound...because you ARE saving a life...and you CAN find purebred dogs there if that's what you want. Obviously, if you want to SHOW the dog, or if you plan to HUNT the dog...you may want to look into a REPUTABLE BREEDER who specializes in breeding dogs of high quality. High Quality I mean in accordance with what the AKC determines as high quality in a specific breed. MY personal choice is NOT generally purebred. I have had, trained, known and loved way too many "mixed" breeds that as far as I was concerned WERE the Best in Show, because they possessed the outstanding qualities, both physical and behavioral to make an outstanding individual that would do anything it could to be the perfect companion. This is not to say a purebred won't have the same qualities too! I just go bonkers on a personal level seeing truly great dogs disregarded because they are mutts! If you are NOT going to go to a pound or rescue to search out YOUR perfect pup, just BEWARE and demand to SEE the parents...a "we've got it all" (retail)whole sale puppy warehouse is VERY LIKELY a dumping ground for PuppyMill Puppies!

There are two beagle rescues in the DC area: BREW: www.brewbeagles.org Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland: www.beaglemaryland.org Today, I noticed there are 3 six week old puppies on BREW's website and Beagle and a few 3 and 4 month old beagle puppies on Rescue of Southern Maryland's website. Please check them out (or a shelter) before purchasing a puppy from a breeder or pet store. Thanks.

Great basset hound rescue in DC, VA, MD, WV, DE and southern Pa is Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD). You can go to web site at www.brood-va.org They do home visits to be sure the right dog finds its forever home. Do not often have puppies and do have younger dogs, after people realized the puppy grows. I adopted 3 dogs from them over the years. Youngest was about 2 and all 3 have/had been great pets/companions.
