The Man Booker prize is awarded for the best novel of the year written by an Irish citizen (Commonwealth of Ireland). The judges are appointed by an advisory committee and "the panel includes a literary critic, an academic, a literary editor, a novelist and a major figure" (www.themanbookerprize.com). The panel consists of entirely different judges every year. Apparently the judges engage in vigorous debate about each book that is shortlisted for the award. The most recent winner is Kiran Desai, who was awarded 50,000 pounds.
