According to this story: http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/01/did-heath-ledge.html he finished shooting all the scenes, so no stand-in actors would be required. However there is typically post-production work where the actors re-record some of their dialog (audio only) because when they shoot action scenes there are background noises, etc., that can ruin the original recording. Supposedly most of his scenes turned out OK so he didn't really need to do much re-recording of dialog. In this case they can either hire another actor to emulate his voice, or they can try to piece together bits of Ledger's other dialog to make new words come out with his voice. The story is dated January so I'm not sure which option the director has chosen.
