Trying over the counter remedies is dangerous unless you know exactly what you are treating. There could be brain damage, blindness, or severe pain, for the rest of your life if shingles go untreated. Trying to find shingles relief is practically impossible without the help of a medical practitioner.

Vitamin E will ease irritated nerves, in liquid form it will aid in healing the blisters and help to erase the scars. Although treatment is found in beef, pork, eggs, and tofu, it is important to take lysine supplements, to elevate the level of amino acid in your system. Lysine inhibits the shingle virus making it less likely to spread and it helps in shingles relief as well.

One typically eastern method of treatment which has been widely accepted by western doctors is a Capsaicin cream or ointment. Capsaicin is the chemical in red pepper responsible for heat. Ointments made with Capsaicin and rubbed into the affected area (usually after the blisters heal) are frequently used and have proven effective in relieving the lingering Shingles pain of some patients. Zostrix, an over the counter medication made with the red pepper extract, has been developed for this purpose.

I was recently diagnosed w/ shingles on my neck close to my jawline. Before I could fill the prescription for pain meds my dr. prescribed, I used a sunburn treatment that I had in my fridge - a generic brand of aloe vera gel that also contains lidocaine, tea tree oil, and menthol. It relieved the pain almost immediately, and helped to cool off the burning sensation I was experiencing, too. Look for something with lidocaine in it, i'm sure that was the most helpful ingredient besides the aloe gel.

A very good remedy that has been proven to ease the pain of the Shingles is Apply Cider. If you apply it to the skin 2-3 times per day then this will help with the pain and discomfort. I hope this helps.
