  • Self righteous people feel superior to everyone else. I believe it is more arrogance not making themselves feel better. That is just my opinion.
  • Those self-righteous people need to have an audience (you included) and cronies in order to be effective. Take away the one, and you've won half of the battle.
  • Self-righteus people are usully the ones that have been on one of two extremes: very tight (possible religious) upbringing environment and/or life style; or, very lose, totally undiscipline and out of control upbringing and/or lifestyle. The first type are so afraid to lose what they feel make them who they are, that they have the tendency to push people into their own parameters... they don't know any other way of life (A type of brainwashed?!); and, usually they only try to do good in the only way they know. The second type comes from people that had hurt so many people, done so much wrongs, broke so many rules and laws... that the only way they have some self control is to be extreme about their "change of heart". These people try to push others or as you say "cast their self-righteousness" because they are afraid of falling back into their old selves, they are as unsure of their next step as an ex-alcoholic is of holding back from the next tempting drink. They usually have remanents of their previous ways that they want to hide because it would make them vulnerable.
  • It falls in the face of Romans 3:10 "There is none righteous, no not one"...It's righteousness based on their own standards, that others may fall in line with their image and likeness. What a falsehood! My take? I think we're headed for those Salem Witch trials once again because there is a denial of the existence of sin, so the insinuation is that no one can be trusted, which necessitates social judgment "for the good of the people". The truth is that if, as individuals could get honest with themselves and their sins, this need for "You're a witch!" goes away. It will always come back to personal responsiblity! :)
  • They don't know how to mind their own business when other people's behaviors arent hurting another person. Also--self righteous people lack genuine love and concern for other people. So they aren;t so righteous, are they? If they speak up when someone is trying to harm others, it's one thing, but many just want to be condescending and authorative, thinking it's their job to go around convicting everyone instead of helping them.
  • They are arrogant, they get off on making you look bad, so they look better, but in reality, they arent that good, they usually are hiding a lot of insecurities.
