That's a difficult question, because there are so many variables. Basically, it's not much more expensive than a freshwater aquarium except for the salt mixtures and testing kits. Patience is more important than anything, because you have to cycle your tank before you can add specimens you want to keep. Once you've gone through this process, it becomes much more expensive. Marine fish and intertebrates are costly. It's hard to find any of them below $10.00, and most are much more. As a whole, the hobby is far more expensive than freshwater, over the long haul.
