  • Continued question: I hate the idea of the big sleep or WormFood" even though you probably are never aware of yourself as an entity again. But I feel it must be more, here for a lesson at basement level of Earth school-yecch-but somehow we must pass on to other realms-for this to be it-it the ultimate practical joke, on us unfortuinately. We have such capacity for so many things and to be limited by decades as compared to eons, either means not much is asked of us here, this is a particularly tough test, or perhaps our brains just aren't designed 2b in Earth school for very long-what do you think about all this??
  • I don't see things that way.. I believe that underneath my superficial self, which pays attention to this and that, there is another self more really us than I. And the more you become aware of the unknown self -- if you become aware of it -- the more you realize that it is inseparably connected with everything else that is. You are a function of this total galaxy, bounded by the Milky Way, and this galaxy is a function of all other galaxies. You are that vast thing that you see far, far off with great telescopes. You look and look, and one day you are going to wake up and say, "Why, that's me!" And in knowing that, you know that you never die. You are the eternal thing that comes and goes that appears -- now as John Jones, now as Mary Smith, now as Betty Brown -- and so it goes, forever and ever and ever.
  • I believe that this life is just God's comedy store and that we are only practising for the next life where the tests are greater and so are the rewards. We come to this plane with something to achieve and when it's done off we go - probably why the good die young; they get on with the job in hand while the rest of us pussyfoot around enjoying ourselves! I believe there is a whole other world waiting for us when we are done with this one!
  • It would appear that way....bit of a bummer really. All of life on this planet has it pretty much the same way.....some have a lot shorter time than us. We are possibly more aware of it than other Earth born life forms, that’s all.
  • You never die.
  • absolutely not, this is merely an interlude, a path that you choose to enjoy for a very short while............
  • Except for the fact that nothing ever ceases to exist, yes, I do believe that there is no conscious existence after death, nor was there one before birth. Just as flowers bloom and die with no one ever seeing them, a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, and such. The basic building blocks of matter are still there, and will be re-combined, but there is no soul, or other existence outside nature.
  • Read The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil
  • I don't know details, but I do believe there is an existence after earthly death. There is far too much anecdotal evidence about life after death to ignore. Additionally, most religions hold with some form of life after death. Being 65 years old with cancer makes this question a bit more urgent. Heh!
  • Possibly. I don't know; I've never died. If that IS it, then it's not like there's anything we can do about it. It would suck, yeah, and it would be nice to think that when you die you go to this warm fluffy place surrounded by puppies, but just wanting something doesn't make it true. So why worry about it?
  • I do not know for sure, but I am trying to make every moment count as long as I am here :)
  • Well, who promised you more?! ;-)
  • No. Long ways to go. And an eternity to get there.
