  • Very good question that you should ask - but assume it is monthly
  • My association fee in a beach city in California is $298 and that includes the water bill. I have a garage because it's a townhouse and it is a monthly fee.
  • That has to be yearly. $235/mo for some assholes to tell you what you can and can't do would be ridiculous.
  • Definitely monthly. Yes, it's a rip off, but that's the way it is. If you can run for the Board, and get elected, you can maybe make some changes in the way the HOA does business. Most people can't manage money worth shit, so you'd have a leg up if you can.
  • Traditional townhome and condo association fees are always expressed as a monthly fee. Detached Single Family Residences that have HOAs that do little aside from acting as a loose-knit architectural control committee, may charge as little as $50 to a few hundred per year (this does not include detached townhomes). This will be clearly defined in the HOA bylaws or covenants.
  • Usually monthly, and beware of the dreaded HOA; who can tell you what curtains you can put up, what colors you can use, whether you can work on your vehicle in your own driveway, what flowers you can plant (or not) etc. Yes, yes--I live in Virgina Beach and know about some of these dastardly rules. Read the find print before you sign anything!
  • The fee is monthly and can go up pver the years. Then if the HOA has little in reserves and down the road you need something major repaired, they have to get a loan at the bank. Let's say #500,000 to repair roofs. Take the payment to the bank, divide it into how many homeowners and those special assesments are on top of the $235. Don't do it. Myself and a director are in a legal battle against 4 directors and the property manager. It's horrible. DON'T DO IT!
