Daito ryu, teaches combat methods which are not a part of modern Aikido, however the yoshinkan style of Aikido still retains much of the older Aikijitsu technique. The Daito ryu is considered more of a hard style of martial art where as Aikido would be considered a soft style. The founder of Aikido O-sensi Ushiba studyed Daito ryu and taught the style before he developed Aikido. Hope this helps, Peace!

Daito Ryu tends to have better instruction lately. Aikido is turning into "bullshido", with so many instructor adding in "harmony" at the expense of sound technique, much to the annoyance of the "old hands" who first brought Aikido to the West.
