  • Yes and no, either way. using tinfoil or aluminum foil, just speeds the cooking process of the potatoe and keeps the moisture inside. tinfoil may also help to retain some of the vitamins, that ordinary cooking does not. Bake two potatoes side by side in the oven. one in aluminum foil, the other without. You be the judge!
  • Some do, but I don't bother and mine turn out fine. I never knew the point, and thats why I never bothered
  • I never use foil and my baked potatoes always come out perfect. Just make sure you prick the potatoes with a fork or something sharp before baking.
  • It help to hold in the flavor and helps to cook evenly
  • It doesn't have to. The foil usually helps things to cook without burning (like if you have a bake that needs to cook more but you do not want it to go too brown on top). It will unfortunately not help with vitamin losses, as the vitamins (mainly C in this case) are denatured by the heat, whether it is direct or not.
  • I don't like mine baked in foil. I like the skins to be a little crisp, and foil keeps them soft.
