I have a dell inspiron 1720, and on sites like youtube I cannot use fullscreen mode, it just goes to a black screen. Where/how do I upgrade the drivers to fix this?

you need to first of all find out what graphics card you have. you can do this by going into control panel on the start menu, then go to device manager, hardware then look for the video - it will list the full version of your graphics card then you can go to the manufacturers website and download the latest version. also do a windows update and get the latest direct x if you havnt already. hope this helps.
