  • Most individuals using a CPAP device report difficulty when they first start using it, but with time they learn to sleep with the machine on and discover that they are able to sleep deeper and wake up feeling much more refreshed. Give yourself time, and seek input form your health professional.
  • I HATE my CPAP machine. I answered your other question as well. My Sleep apnea is LOW. The Machine was desing originally as a Neo-Natal Care Device, to assist premature babies with sleeping. I am sure mr cletus did not know this. The ENT I see in the Portland area was working in the Pheonix area hospital the was part of this pilot project. The machine works best with the Snorkel mask. I am a mouth breather, hence I snore, the full face masks to not allow me to breath appropriately. I use it mainly when sick or tired. The goal if you have to stick with CPAP - make sure your CPAP has a humifier, also there are there machine types - CPAP, Bi-Level CPAP, and AutoPAP - AutoPAP is the most expensive and is the best for Low Apnea as it adjusts automatically and does not need fine tuning. It is essentially an at home Sleep Study KIT. It can take 2-4 years to adjust to the Snorkel type. Most insurnaces now pay for 2-masks per year. If you are stuck with CPAP talk to your Pulmonologist / Sleep Guru on how to build toleance to the Snorkel.
  • Go for the UPPP. It cleared up my sleep apnea all together. Besides, the mask creeps me out completely (there was an incident).
  • My brother wears one and it has not helped him, partly because he is inconsistant about using it. His case is severe though, the doctors want to give him a treak if he does not improve. It is rather loud but not as loud as his snoring. I hear there is a procedure where they laser the excess tissue from arround the larenex to increase airflow but its expensive and could affect your speech. I have been trying to find out more about it for my brother but no doctors in my ares do it.
  • Yes and it helps a lot. Try a pillow(that's what it's called, it looks like a little barrel with nose things)I had trouble with the masks, it goes under your nose and it doesn't leak hardly ever.
  • I have a CPAP machine. I've had it for about two months now. I started with the air tube that went up your nose. I couldn't stand that. Then I tried a full mask. Can't stand that either. While I realize it is very important to wear the mask, it does take quite a lot of getting used to. What I have started doing is when I'm watching TV or reading, etc., I think I might dose (which is all the time) I wear the mask for a short time. Hopefully, after wearing it during the day for short periods of time it will be easier to make the night time transition of wearing the mask for short periods of time until you find that you are able to wear it all night. I have found that when I don't wear the mask at night (even for a short period of time), I sleep walk and fall. I believe it is because as I'm walking, I stop breathing and fall. Next think I know, I'm on the floor with no clear recollection of how I got there. Does that happen to you or anyone else out there?
  • my husband has used one for about 3 years now. he has a full nose and mouth design and he has gotten used to it.
