Do labels and producers still listen to demos on DAT tapes? If not, what format would you suggest?

They do. I have three pals, one a owner of a small Indie label (Mushroom Productions),one the owner of National Treasures Studios the the last a retired amp maker (Traynor Amps) who's been mixing for 40 years, that still use DAT.

Pretty much every independent label (granted ones that are pretty famous, not the one some guy's cousin runs out of his basement) I have seen which accept unsolicited material almost always wants it on a CD. Major labels don't even spend time accepting unsolicited demos.
